When King Sejo usurped the throne from the young young nephew, King Danjong, Geumseong was exiled to the remote hills of Yeongju. Instead of submitting, he quietly gathered loyalists here to plot Danjong’s restoration. Though the plot failed and led to a tragic purge in the area, Geumseong’s unyielding loyalty (Uiri, 의리) became the foundational spirit of Yeongju. By Train (Recommended)

Take the KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni Station (or Seoul Station) to Yeongju Station. It takes just around 1 hour and 40 minutes. The ride itself is beautiful, transitioning quickly into rolling mountain vistas.

By Bus

Take an express bus from the Seoul Express Bus Terminal or East Seoul Bus Terminal to Yeongju Express Bus Terminal (approx. 2.5 hours).

• Travel Slow:
  Public transit within Yeongju exists but runs on rural schedules. To fully immerse yourself without stress, rent a car at Yeongju Station, or rely on local taxis for a more curated pace.
• The Golden Hour at Buseoksa:
  Do not rush your visit to Buseoksa Temple. Arrive in the late afternoon, walk past the apple orchards, and sit on the steps of the Muryangsusu-jeon (one of Korea’s oldest wooden structures) just as the monks begin their evening chanting at sunset.
• Overnight in Museom Village
  Skip the standard hotels. Stay in a traditional hanok guest house in Museom Village. Wake up early before the tourists arrive, when the river fog hugs the single-log bridge, and let the silence become part of the journey.
