Jangneung Royal Tomb in Yeongwol is one of Korea’s most serene UNESCO World Heritage sites, easily accessible from Seoul.
Jangneung is notably known as a filming location for the film The King’s Warden (2026, 왕과 사는 남자). It is also closely associated with the story of Eom Heung-do (엄흥도), who is said to have recovered and honored the remains of King Danjong. Today, it stands as the royal tomb of King Danjong (단종), offering visitors a place of profound historical significance and quiet reflection.
It is also associated with stories reminiscent of classic Korean historical cinema such as The King and the Clown (2005, 왕의 남자), reflecting the poignant legacy of King Danjong.
King Danjong: A Tragic Royal Story

King Danjong (1441–1457), the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty, ascended the throne in 1452 as a child at the age of 12. He was dethroned by his uncle King Sejo, and exiled at the age of 15. He died just a year later at 16, leaving behind one of Korea’s most poignant royal legacies, marked by loss, loyalty, and quiet dignity.

Travel Information : From Seoul to Jangneung in 2.5 Hours
For guests wishing to visit Jangneung Royal Tomb in Yeongwol, the most convenient route is to travel to Cheongnyangni Station and take a Mugunghwa train to Yeongwol Station.
- From Seoul Station to Cheongnyangni Station (청량리역)
From Seoul Station, please take Subway Line 1 toward Cheongnyangni / Soyosan / Dongducheon, and get off at Cheongnyangni Station.
The travel time is approximately 20–25 minutes. - Train from Cheongnyangni to Yeongwol (영월)
At Cheongnyangni Station, please take the Mugunghwa train to Yeongwol Station. The journey takes approximately 2 hours to 2 hours and 20 minutes. - From Yeongwol Station to Jangneung (장릉)
Upon arrival at Yeongwol Station, Jangneung Royal Tomb can be reached by taxi in approximately 10 minutes. Taxis are usually available in front of the station. Alternatively, guests may take Local Bus No. 1 and get off at Cheongnyeongpo Samgeori bus stop, followed by a short walk to the tomb.
From Myeongdong Station to Cheongnyangni Station
From Myeongdong Station (Line 4), take the train toward Seoul Station (southbound) and get off at the next stop (approx. 2 minutes).
At Seoul Station, follow signs for the subway transfer (Line 1).
At Cheongnyangni Station, you may proceed by following steps 2 and 3 as outlined above.

Use Transfer Passage near Exit 1–2 area
Walking time: approximately 4–6 minutes
👉 Once you reach Line 1:
Board a train heading toward Cheongnyangni / Soyosan / Dongducheon
Recommended boarding area: middle cars (car 4–6) for fastest transfer flow
Alternatively, guests may take a taxi from Myeongdong to Cheongnyangni Station, which takes about 25–30 minutes depending on traffic.
